Thanksgiving

This is the second year Michelle and I have been in Canada on Thanksgiving. Last year we were here to interview for this job. This year we brought the most of the rest of the family. We missed Amy and Ashley and her family, but we are planning a big reunion trip in February.

We enjoyed the company of Elders Tengelsen and Rowley, and Shiloh, Barb, and Lockie. Michelle and I cooked all day long for the festivities. Our menu included all the Simpson favorites, Mary Kay Salad, Jaquays, Mashed potatoes, and we tried a couple of new recipes this year too. The turkey and stuffing recipes are from Christina Ferrare. The stuffing includes orange juice and lemon juice. It is very good, with a light, zippy taste. The turkey had a marinade with dijon mustard and soy sauce. The marinade saved our turkey. When we opened the bag, the skin was missing from the breast meat. We were affraid it would leave a bone dry mass of tough poultry, but oh no. Not today buckeroos.

Here is a pic of our new walk-in freezer. (or really our new walk-out) We used the copper bird bath that was full of snow from last week to hold and chill the beverages. It was perfect. Just 90 minutes in the walk-out, and presto-magico: Ready to drink chilled beverages. We also had Martinelli's, which is a bit more spendy here than there. We also use the garage as a walk-in cooler. It is almost like being in Girl's Camp with full sized amenities.

At the end of the day, Samuel serenaded us with Silent Night on his guitar. He is one of three students that teach beginning guitar to other students in Primary School. He is pretty good for a self taught ax man.
