In northern Alberta, one's truck is often a statement of epic proportions. For our Young Men's program this year we made quite a statement. Our Ward Christmas is this coming Friday night, and there will be a contest for decorated ginger bread houses. Well, young men do not do so well with frilly ginger bread houses, Right Lanette?
But trucks??!! To quote my good friend Tim Allen - "Oh! Oh! Oh!" Boys love trucks. I did not realize how much work it is to make ginger bread. My hat is off to Lanette for hosting us for so many years at her house, and working so hard to get ready for the FHE to decorate. 
The wheels are authentic Tim Horton's Cruellers. The blower on the motor is by Snickers. The exhaust stacks (still waiting to be installed) will be candy canes. The bed liner is after dinner mints. Gum Drop lights and can you see the bug on the wind shield? And what would a great ruck be without a flame paint job? In keeping with tradition, we filled the cab and engine compartment with loose candies as a surprise for the lucky YM that gets to take the truck home after the party. (We will draw names out of a hat of all the boys that worked on the truck)
We found the pattern in a Canadian Living magazine, and I drew the pattern. We then redid the pattern half size so we could get the chassis platform on one cookie sheet. The original truck was huge, and way too big to be useful. I only made on batch of ginger bread for the parts, and barely had enough to build the smaller truck. I guess the instructions were written by a Texan where everything is too big. Of course, they say Alberta is the Texas of the North...
